Frequently Asked Questions
What is net worth and why does it matter?
Net worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities. It's the single number that tells you where you actually stand financially — not what you earn, but what you keep. Growing your net worth over time is the real measure of financial progress.
What should I include as assets?
Include everything of significant value: bank balances, fixed deposits, mutual funds, stocks, EPF/PPF balance, gold, property market value, vehicle resale value, and business equity. Include only what you could realistically convert to cash.
What should I include as liabilities?
Include all outstanding loan balances (home, car, personal, education), total credit card outstanding (not limit, but amount owed), and any informal debts. Use the current outstanding principal — not the total amount you borrowed originally.
What's a good net worth at my age?
A popular rule of thumb: Net Worth ≥ (Annual Income × Age) / 10. But this varies hugely by city, career stage, and goals. The most important metric isn't the absolute number — it's whether your net worth is growing consistently every month.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. Everything is stored only in your browser's local storage — nothing is sent to any server. Clearing your browser data will erase your entries and snapshots, so save snapshots regularly or export if you want a record.
How often should I update my net worth?
Monthly is ideal. Market values fluctuate, loan balances decrease, and savings grow. Saving a snapshot each month lets you see the trajectory — which is more motivating (and informative) than any single number.
