Core work: a different kind of exercise
Core training is not about doing crunches. The core's primary function is stabilisation — resisting unwanted movement of the spine under load — not generating movement. The exercises that train this best are anti-extension (planks, dead bugs), anti-rotation (side planks, Pallof press variations), and anti-lateral-flexion (single-leg movements, suitcase holds).
